Hagar had done what so many of us do...she ran from her troubles. Sarah was treating her harshly and she couldn't take it any more so she ran. The Lord spoke to her and told her to go back and submit herself. Why? Why would God send her back into that nasty situation? Who knows...but if you go further back in that story you will see that Hagar had gotten a little full of herself and treated Sara with contempt.
Often times we create our own trouble and sometimes we don't...but either way running is not the answer. God wants us to stand strong in the battle...He never tells us to run, rather to stand fast and fight the good fight. There were always grave consequences to those who ran and those stories are in the Bible as an example for us not to run.
If we submit our will to HIS we will be able to overcome anything! If we march ahead in our own self-will ignoring God's plea to submit we will march straight into troubles that are far worse than what we are running from. Do it God's way, He is much easier to follow.
