Mark 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
God expects us to produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. He knows the heart and knows a shallow person when He sees one. The day before this fig scene Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The people had lined the street with their clothing and palm leaves as they shouted Hosanna, Hosanna, blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord!!! Oh how they cheered. But He knew their cheers were hollow. He knew their cheers would turn to jeers and they would soon cry out crucify Him, crucify Him.
You may talk the talk but do you walk the walk? Its easy to profess to being a Christian, (at least in some places) but do you actually live it? Your empty profession means nothing to God and you will be cut down if you don't produce fruit. This is serious business. God doesn't play games. His disciples heard it, do you hear it?
