Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us. We have to trust God and believe that He will surround us with His mercy. We can learn a great lesson from Bathsheba. She and David committed a great sin...adultery, which led to murder...and even though they lost the baby God was merciful and forgave them and they had another son, Solomon. Bathsheba repented and used her mistake to train her son in the way he should go, and we see this wisdom in the proverbs he wrote. She did not let that huge mistake ruin her whole life, instead she learned from it, and taught her son to avoid such things as the flatteries of strange women.
Bathsheba didn't brood over her sin. She repented of it, learned from it and moved on to bear the future king, the wisest king to rule Israel. She was broken before God and God blessed her. She was even given the honor of having her name written in the genealogy of Jesus.
God is calling His people to repentance. He wants to forgive. He wants to heal. He wants to bless. But we have to do our part.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
