Psalm 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Peter, James and John were skilled fishermen. They knew what they were doing, this was their livelihood. But human skill will only get us so far. Hard work and effort, while commendable, won't bring the miraculous. Luke 5:1-11 gives a clear account of what happens when Jesus steps on the scene. It give a clear account of what happens when we obey Him even though it doesn't make any sense, even though it goes against our grain, even though we've done all we can and nothing has come of it. You see, without God nothing we do will amount to much, but with God ALL things are possible.
They had fished all night and caught nothing. They had done all they could and worked as hard and they could, but to no avail. When Jesus told them to launch out into the deep and let down their nets Peter balked...and here is why the miracle was able to happen...but then he said "nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net"... because you say so I will let down the net...even though it doesn't make any sense I will do it...even though I worked my fingers to the bone and got nothing I will do as you say.
Do you need a miracle in your life? Perhaps you should say, nevertheless at thy word...
