Scripture of the Day - March 31, 2012

Ephesians 6:17b ...and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

Now we are ready to go on the offensive. But I'll warn you, there is no sense going on the offensive until you have first put on the defensive armour. The Word of God is powerful and people better be careful how they handle it. God doesn't play games. He is very serious about His Word and our obedience to it. Hebrews tells us that the Word of God is LIVING and POWERFUL.

There are many who will come in His name but they won't be of Him. There are many who will use the Word of God for their own gain. Satan used the Word of God and twisted it ever so slightly to corrupt Eve and he is still doing it to millions of people today. He tried to use the Word of God to corrupt Jesus but of course Jesus knew the Word and exposed the counterfeit.

Folks, we have to protect ourselves with the whole armour of God and know His Word if we expect to be able to use it as a weapon against the enemy.

Scripture of the Day - March 30, 2012

Ephesians 6:17a And take the helmet of salvation...

Another vital part of the defensive armour is the helmet of salvation. Salvation not only delivers us from the penalty for sin it also protects us from the power of sin. Not until we receive the Holy Spirit and put on the mind of Christ can we have power over sin. The reason for this is that satan attacks us through our minds. He plants thoughts and builds strongholds in our minds, and when he can heavily influence our thought process he can easily control our actions.

The helmet protects the head and we need to protect our minds against the enemy with the salvation of Jesus Christ, God Almighty. We need to study the Word of God and apply it to our lives. We need to put on the mind of Christ and let Him build up a stronghold and heavily influence our thought process so the enemy can't even get a foot in.

Scripture of the Day - March 29, 2012

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Faith is vital to the Christian. It's the lifeline to heaven. Without faith it is impossible to please God. All the righteousness in the world will do you no good without faith... for then it is only self-righteousness. God has given each of us a measure of faith and it is up to you to cultivate what He gave you and make it grow. That faith then becomes a shield that will not only protect you, but will extinguish all the fiery darts the enemy throws at you. Without faith you will be engulfed, overwhelmed, by those darts.
Immerse yourself in the Word of God, absorb it and cultivate the faith that God gave to you.

Scripture of the Day - March 28, 2012

Ephesians 6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace...

Everywhere we go, we must be ready to share the gospel of peace. That does not mean that we go around with a Bible in hand preaching from our soap box. Of course we are expected to tell people of God's plan of salvation for them but before we declare the Word of God we must LIVE the Word of God. Our conversation and conduct must be such that people see Jesus in us. They may not recognize that it is Jesus but they will instinctively know there is something different.
This world is filled with deceit, and hypocrisy and it is vitally important for Christians to first gird themselves with truth, for it's on this girdle all the other armour hangs. Our foundation must be truth and our hearts covered with righteousness THEN we can go out prepared to share the gospel of peace.

Scripture of the Day - March 27, 2012

Ephesians 6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness...

The Christian walk is not for the lazy nor the careless. We are in a battle. There is an enemy who wants to destroy our souls. We have to be on our guard day and night...standing, not laying down. We have to be equipped with the knowledge of truth and be on the offensive with truth if we are to win this battle. We have to protect ourselves with righteousness if we are to defeat the enemy of our soul. Christ will not keep us if we wantonly stray from truth and righteousness, if we refuse to wear the armour of God, so stand and put on that armour! Protect yourself from the enemy of your soul.

Scripture of the Day - March 26, 2012

Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

There have always been strong forces coming against Christians. Satan hates the Christ in us and will do whatever he can to destroy us. You won't withstand the enemy on your own... don't even try... he is much too crafty and cunning for us...he will get into your mind and influence you without you even realizing it and without God we are putty in his hands.

BUT, we don't have to cower and go into hiding. We can stand and not only hold our ground, but march forward. With God ALL things are possible and no weapon formed against a child of the King shall prosper. When we put on the armour of God we can withstand whatever comes our way.

Scripture of the Day - March 25, 2012

Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We are fighting forces about which we know very little. Our carnal knowledge is no match for the rulers of the darkness of this world. Our human wisdom pales against the powers of spiritual wickedness that threatens this world. We cannot fight against satan's principalities without the power of God in our lives. All we have to do is look at our western governments and how they are trying to appease and work with the evil ideology of islam. They will never win. That ideology will continue to spread like a cancer, infecting every country and every level of our society. Those who understand what's going on can see it happen so clearly.

Folks, it's only with the power of God ruling our lives that we can stand against the enemy, whichever form he takes. It's only the armour of God that will protect us when the enemy strikes. Take on that armour!

Scripture of the Day - March 24, 2012

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We have an enemy, and that enemy lies in wait to deceive and trick us with cunning ways. Too many people are unaware of his deception and fall into his trap. His greatest deception is to use the Word of God but twist it ever so slightly to lure us off the right track. Jesus warned us, broad is the way, that leads to destruction, and many there be which enter through it. He also warned us to beware of false prophets that appear so spiritual and knowledgeable but they are teaching false doctrines. Jesus said they are like ravening wolves because these false teachings will lead us to destruction.

We cannot reason with the enemy, we cannot argue with the enemy, and we cannot give the enemy a foothold in our lives at all. The only way to fight the enemy and keep him at bay is to get our strength from the Lord. We have to remember GOD ALMIGHTY and stick with HIM! We have to put on His armour if we want to protect ourselves from the enemy of our soul.

Scripture of the Day - March 23, 2012

Ephesians 6:5 Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
6 Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;
7 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
8 Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.
9 And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

Today we call this relationship employer/employee. There are many employees who don't particularly care about their jobs; they grudgingly go to work, doing the barest minimum. They need to be watched over and slack off at the first opportunity. Some cause trouble in the workplace with backbiting and gossiping. Some are belligerent, and some are just plain lazy. There are also many different kinds of employers. Some are a joy to work for but some are harsh and unfair.
What we, as Christians, have to understand is that Jesus is interested in how we treat each other and he will reward us according to how we interact with each other. Our goal should not be to please man but to please God, and then by default we shall please man.
When you go into the workplace whether you are an employee or employer, remember that you represent Jesus and, for most people, their only exposure to Jesus is through you.
You are an ambassador for Christ. Go with dignity, knowing that you are representing the King of kings.

Scripture of the Day - March 22, 2012

1 Peter 3:7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Men... husbands in particular... are in an awesome place of responsibility that they cannot escape. They have a duty that God insists they carry out. Paul and Peter have explained very clearly the attitude husbands are to have to their wives and fathers to their children

You may ignore God's word and insist on doing things your way, but be very careful because if you are not doing things God's way you are hindering your prayers. Do you wonder why things never seem to work out, why your prayers seem most times to fall on deaf ears? Perhaps you need to revisit Ephesians chapter 5 and adjust your attitude.

A mechanic will tell you that sometimes it just takes the smallest adjustment to get that car running smoothly. Sometimes in our walk with God it just takes a small adjustment in our attitude to have our lives running smoothly. God is interested in details, we need to get the details of our lives in order.

Scripture of the Day - March 21, 2012

Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Fathers are expected to be loving and kind to their children. They are expected to instruct their children in the ways of God. Deuteronomy 6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children. The ways of God ought to be the passion of fathers and that passion will be passed down to their children. They will see the godly example of their fathers and follow after it. The will heed the instruction of their fathers and prosper. (There are always exceptions to the rule unfortunately.)

As head of the home, fathers have the responsibility to set the example. It is imperative that they set a godly example because God will not bless a man who is rebellious to His ways. Provoking children to anger with harsh put-downs and nasty comments are notGod's ways. Forcing children through violence and fear are not God's ways. Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. If a man wants love and respect from his family he must first set an example of love and respect.

Scripture of the Day - March 20, 2012

Ephesians 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

A rebellious child does not prosper. God does not bless rebellion, but He will bless a child who is obedient. That child will grow and prosper in all he/she does. The marriage and family is an earthly mirror of our relationship with God. (which is why the powers of this world are trying to redefine marriage and redefine what a family is.) And just as children are expected to obey their parents we are expected to obey our heavenly Father, that it may be well with us.

Scripture of the Day - March 19, 2012

Ephesians 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Marriage is ordained by God. He initiated it in the garden of Eden with Adam and Eve and gave the perfect example of the importance and strength of marriage in describing the relationship between Jesus and the church. We are to follow this example and love and submit to each other just as Jesus submitted even to the cross for us.

Divorce doesn't represent God's relationship with us. He will never leave us nor forsake us, and we ought not be so willing to leave and forsake our marriage partner.

Verse 33 is the bottom line in our lives. And if we follow the bottom line we will have much happier marriages.

Scripture of the Day - March 18, 2012

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Jesus is totally focused on His church...His bride. He wants the church to be glorious! He wants the church to be holy and without blemish. He cherishes His church and considers it a part of His body. Rom 12:5 So we, being many, are one body in Christ.
1Co 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. He considers us one with Him. Thus He nourishes and cherishes the church.

Jesus died and rose from the grave so that whoever believed on Him could be a part of the church, a part of His body. He made a way for us to be sanctified to Him, betrothed to Him.
We are cleansed and sanctified to Him when we are washed in the waters of baptism in His Name. Our sins are washed away and we are new in Christ, members of His body, of his flesh and of his bones.
Oh the love and grace our God has bestowed upon His church that He might present it to Himself glorious, holy, without spot, wrinkle or blemish.

Scripture of the Day - March 17, 2012

Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it...
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

Paul gives a very strong admonition to husbands. Jesus loved the church so much that he gave His life for it. Men are instructed to love their wives with the same intensity. This kind of love is selfless not selfish. This kind of love wants the absolute best for the other even if it means you sacrifice. This kind of love cares about the needs of the wife and wants to meet those needs. You may not always understand her needs but at least you have the desire to please her and take care of her. After all, you love your own body, you meet your own needs, you take care of yourself... Paul is saying that you should have the same desire for your wife, and yes, even if it means sacrifice on your part. Prove your love. Love in deed and in truth.

Scripture of the Day - March 16, 2012

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Here is a portion of scripture that is very controversial these days. The nerve! Men and women are equal! No man is the boss of me! Ain't no man gonna order me around!

In any kind of group of people, whether it be a family, or a church, or a work environment, or a volunteer organization, there has to be someone who makes the final decisions. If not, there would be chaos. While it is true that we are all equal in the sight of God there has to be a leader, and in the family, God has ordained that the leader be the husband.

The family is compared to Jesus and the church. If we follow the word of God families would stay in tack and prosper in all things. It's when we go outside the Word of God and do what is right in our own minds that we mess up, as is glaringly evident today.

Now here is the clincher. The husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church. The husband has to follow the example that Christ laid out. If the husband follows the example of Jesus the wife will gladly submit to him, she will gladly give in and cooperate and assume responsibility and carry the burden. She would be a fool not to, just as anyone is a fool not to submit to Jesus. The onus is on the husband though to follow the example of Christ and if he doesn't the result is a rebellious wife and upset in the home.

A friend sent me a joke where the husband was standing over the wife making all sorts of ridiculous demands and at the end he said "and then do you know who's going to do my hair?"...to which she replied, " the funeral director". That pretty well sums up the crux of the matter. If husbands knew their place then it would be easy for women to know their place. Jesus laid the example very clearly so there is no excuse.

Scripture of the Day - March 15, 2012

Ephesians 5:21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

We must have a full understanding of exactly what this word submit means here and in the following verses. It does NOT mean that some are bullies and the others cower before them. Paul is very specific that the pastor not lord over the saints.

Here is what the Strong's concordance says about the word submit...A Greek military term meaning "to arrange [troop divisions] in a military fashion under the command of a leader". In non-military use, it was "a voluntary attitude of giving in, cooperating, assuming responsibility, and carrying a burden".

The ONLY kingdom in the church is the KINGDOM OF GOD, but some are determined to have their own little kingdoms and will not cooperate, nor assume any responsibility, nor carry the burden. They want things their own way and watch out if they don't get it!! This goes opposite of God's command and Paul's admonition here.

So much struggle in the church would cease if egos were not so large and fragile and people were willing to give in and do what's right for the greater cause. The church would function as it was meant to.

Scripture of the Day - March 14, 2012

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Often times when people want to escape the troubles in life they reach for alcohol to drown their sorrows but it doesn't help. It only compounds the problem. In fact, nothing in this world will help you escape the troubles of life. If you truly want to escape the troubles of life be filled with the Spirit. Don't focus and dwell on your troubles, rather focus on God and focus on His word. Thank God even in the hard times; for it's the hard times that show us what we're made of. Draw near to Him and He will see you through anything.

Three Hebrew young men were thrown into a fiery furnace for not bowing to the King's statue. They stood against the status quo of the day and stayed focused on God. They didn't fixate on their impending doom, no, they trusted in their God and their God stayed with them in the fire and delivered them out of the fire.

Scripture of the Day - March 13, 2012

1 Samuel 30:13 And David said unto him, To whom belongest thou?

I ask you today...to whom do you belong? You may answer..to God of course!

But do you really belong to God? Let's not kid ourselves. Just believing in Him doesn't mean you belong to Him. Just going to church every now and then doesn't mean you belong to Him. Even praying now and then doesn't mean you belong to Him.

Joshua told the people to choose which God they will serve.
Joshua 24:15...choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell ...

You can't have it both ways. You can't serve the gods of this world, (whatever they may be... pleasure, riches, power...) and THE God of heaven and earth. Jesus was very clear on this. Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (mammon=treasure, riches)

What say ye then? Whom do you really serve? To whom do you really belong?

Scripture of the Day - March 12, 2012

2 Timothy 2: 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
12 If we suffer (endure), we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us...

Folks, we have to take the Word of God seriously. When we stand before Him there will be no one to blame for our state but our own sorry selves. There will be no excuse great enough for God to go back on His Word!

We MUST die to our self will if we want to live with Him in heaven for eternity. Read Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins...has He made alive together with Him...
We MUST endure now here on earth if we want to rule with Him. Jesus said, "To him that overcomes will I grant to sit with me in my throne..." Rev. 3:21

And finally, here is a very strong warning... if we deny Him, he will deny us. If we go about our days ignoring God, He will deny us entry into heaven and we will have no one to blame but ourselves. If we make the pleasures of life more important than God while we live here on earth we will miss out on the greatest pleasure ever...eternal life in a place where there are no more tears and no more suffering, in a place that is so beautiful that our human minds can't even imagine it.

Folks, we have to stay focused, redeeming the time!!

Scripture of the Day - March 11, 2012

Ephesians 5:15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

God told Joshua, when he was about to cross over the Jordan, "Be strong and very courageous, follow all of My law, don't turn from it at all and you will prosper where ever you go." Josh 1:7

He is telling us the same thing today. Don't be fools, letting yourselves be deceived by the vain traditions of man; rather, be accurate and diligent in following My laws.

Listen folks, the days we are living in are evil so we need to make wise use of every opportunity for doing good so that zeal and well doing are, as it were, the purchase money by which we make the time our own. (straight out of Strong's concordance)

Time won't control us, but we will control time. Every decision we make is important, every deed we do is important, we can't waste it on foolishness. Time is too short for that, and the enemy is biting at our heels. So we have to be wise and understand what the will of the Lord is.

And I am telling you now, the things of God are far more important than the pleasures of life which will one day will all fade away. I don't want to be left holding an empty bag, so to speak; I want to be holding the treasures of the Kingdom of Heaven. What about you?

Scripture of the Day - March 10. 2012

Ephesians 5:13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all, 1 John 1:5, therefore Christians should have no darkness in them either. Folks, we will not get away with being hypocrites because all things are exposed by the light, even the hidden things of your heart. Psalm 44:21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Let Jesus shine His light on your heart and rule it. Every time you don't follow the guiding of Jesus a spiritual deadness creeps in and drains you of energy and power, and you slip into a dangerous state of slumber. You develop spiritual hypothermia!

We know that the worst thing for a person with hypothermia to do is fall asleep. That leads to certain death. If the person is lost and developing hypothermia he should never lay down and sleep. He has to take preventative steps...one of which is to increase exercise.

Paul is telling those who have spiritual hypothermia to rise up from certain death, exercise your faith, and let Jesus give you life. Let God's word melt your cold heart For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 Let Jesus shine His light on you and revive you.

Scripture of the Day - March 9, 2012

Ephesians 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

We, as Christians, allow too much of the world into our lives and that is one of the reasons why we don't have the same power as the first century Christians. We are to have NOTHING to do with the unproductive works of darkness, not even to talk about it. Evidently, there is a part of NO that we don't understand!

The works of darkness produce nothing good, so why would we want anything to do with that? Our carnal nature, which is contrary to God's holy nature, is why.

Folks,we had better be careful which nature we allow to rule us.

Paul warns us that to be carnally minded is death; and they that are in the flesh CANNOT please God. Rom.8:6-8 No wonder we don't have the same power...we are too much in the flesh. No wonder we don't have peace in our minds...we are too much in the flesh.

...but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Rom. 8:6

Do you want the power of God in your life? Do you want the peace of God in your life? Then get spiritually minded and don't allow the works of darkness in your life at all!

Scripture of the Day - March 8, 2012

Ephesians 5:9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

The fruit of the Spirit = the proof of the spirit.

Do you know how to tell an apple tree from a pear tree? From the fruit that the tree produces.
Do you know how to tell a true follower of Christ from one who just claims to be a Christian? By what they say and do.

You can't call yourself a Christian and live like the children of unbelief. You can't call yourself a Christian and walk in darkness.

We are expected to prove ourselves. God is not interested in what we claim to be. He is interested in the proof of what we claim to be.

There are going to be many surprised people come judgement day. But, but, but, we did this in your name and we did that in your name. Oh really, well how did you live your life? That's what matters.

Scripture of the Day - March 7, 2012

Ephesians 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

We have to walk, that is... conduct ourselves, according to our station in life. We are adopted into the family of God so that we can now cry out ABBA FATHER. Rom. 8:15 We are now part of THE Royal Family. We need to walk according to the ways of God now. We cannot travel in the old circles. We cannot partake of the old ways but must take on the new ways... the ways of our heavenly Father.

Scripture of the Day - March 6, 2012

Ephesians5:5-6 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
{disobedience: or, unbelief}

There are people out there who will say we are mean and legalistic and all sorts of nasty things if we state the truth, but the truth must be told: NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO HEAVEN. You have to believe and obey if you want to get to heaven, and no amount of denial or temper tantrums and name calling is going to change that.

They come up with the usual nonsense like: God wouldn't send people to hell. What kind of God does that? Well they are right, God doesn't send people to hell. People choose to go there on their own. It's not God's will that any should perish but that ALL should come to repentance. People who deny God, who refuse to repent, who continue in sin are on the path to hell and it's their own choosing

And let's just think of this logic for a minute...if all people went to heaven just the way they are, believers and unbelievers alike, it wouldn't be heaven, it would just be more of what we have here on earth, just a different setting. No thanks!!

Folks, don't be deceived by vain words. Believe God and save your soul!!

Scripture of the Day - March 5, 2012

Ephesians 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

God is very serious about us changing our ways. Not convenient means not fit. Instead of acting in ways that are not fit, God wants us to be thankful. Surely we can think of things to be thankful for. And the interesting thing is, the more we busy ourselves with thinking on things to be thankful for the happier we will be.

Scripture of the Day - March 4, 2012

Ephesians 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

My son is the spit and image of his father. I don't use that term lightly. He has the same laugh, the same smile, the same walk, the same mannerisms, the same physique, everything is soooo much the same, it's almost eerie. It's not hard to tell he is his father's son.

The same should be said for Christians. We should be so much like our Father in heaven that people know right away who we are. We should follow after God so closely that we can't help but act like Him.

How do we do that? Walk in love! Show the same sacrificial love for others that Christ showed. We are not expected to die for others, that would be pointless...Jesus already did that once and for all...but we are to have that selfless brotherly love, that agape love, for others.

That would be pleasing to God and it would show what family we belong to.

Scripture of the Day - March 3, 2012

Ephesians 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

All through scripture we see that the onus is on us to stop the old carnal ways. We are instructed over and over to put off the old way of thinking and put on God's way of thinking. We are the ones who have to let go of the old ways and take on the new. But we are strange creatures. We don't like to leave what we've known, we don't like to leave what we are used to, even if it is not good for us, because that takes us out of our comfort zone. Yes, we can even be comfortable in our misery! Like I said we are strange creatures.

But God is not concerned with our comfort zone, He is concerned with our salvation zone.

You have to decide what zone you want to be in. Pick your zone...bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, evil speaking and malice... or kindness to one another, tenderheartedness, forgiveness for one another just like God forgave you.

Scripture of the Day - March 2, 2012

Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

We need to take a closer look at this scripture because I think many of us don't understand what it means.
What is corrupt communication? Well, corrupt here means 1) rotten, putrefied 2) corrupted by one and no longer fit for use, worn out 3) of poor quality, bad, unfit for use, worthless.

We are instructed to not talk this way, and those who do are grieving God. Those who speak ill of others are grieving God. Those who bring division by gossip are grieving God.

Folks seriously, if you have an issue with someone, you need to go to that person and talk it out, you don't go behind their back gossiping to whosoever will listen. You don't go behind their back complaining about them and tearing them down. (And by the way, those who listen are in just as bad a state.)

This kind of talk is worthless and unfit. It is rotten and only brings death, and it grieves God. You need to hold your tongue and let God fight your battle if you feel wronged. If you are truly wronged He will fight for you...I know this from experience.

Our words need to build people up, they need to lift people, they need to minister grace to those who hear. We need to personalize Ephesians 4:29 and make it our mantra (a word or phrase that is repeated often or that expresses someone's basic beliefs).

I will let no rotten, unfit, worthless communication proceed out of my mouth. Instead I will say only what will help someone, what will build them up. I will say only what will be pleasant to the ear so that those who hear me speak will say, how sweet are your words to my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! (Psalm 119:103)

Scripture of the Day - March 1, 2012

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue...

We need to take this serious and think of it EVERY time we speak...to our spouse, to our children, to our friends, to our workmates and even to strangers. We can speak life or we can speak death into every situation.
Is your marriage dead? Maybe you have spoken death into it.
Do you not have many friends? Maybe you have spoken death into your friendships.

Can you not keep a job or are you miserable where you work? Perhaps you have spoken death into it.

Is your relationship with God dead? Maybe you decided to turn from His ways and follow your own.

Follow God and bring life when you speak.
