Scripture of the Day - September 30, 2012

1 John 2:4  He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

The Word of God cuts right to the chase, gets right to the nitty gritty, doesn't hold back any punches. It is what it is and that's that! You either follow Christ or you don't. You are either His or you're not. We may have some people fooled, we may even have ourselves fooled but Jesus knows who are His. It's a very dangerous thing to pretend to be a Christian, to pretend to know Christ. You can be the greatest Christian orator in the world and still not KNOW Jesus. You can go to church every Sunday, warming the same pew, and still not KNOW Him.
You see, if you refuse to keep His commandments the truth is not in you. If you refuse to submit your will to His the truth is not in you. If you insist on doing things your way and not follow the example Jesus set for us the truth is not in you. It doesn't matter what you were born like, it doesn't matter what your personality is like, Jesus expects ALL who claim to KNOW Him to actually obey His commandments... ALL OF THEM. This business of "that's not for today' is a lie from the pit of hell. What Jesus commanded when He walked the earth is the same that He commands today. He does not change.

Scripture of the Day - September 29, 2012

Philippians 3:14  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

I heard someone preach that we have to 'focus on God's promise rather than our sacrifice.' This can be difficult when life throws at you one sucker punch after another. You end up spinning in circles wondering where you are and where you ought to go. Some of us go around in a punch drunk stupor, barely hanging on by a thread... but we are hanging on! A spider can dangle by one thread and so can we if that thread is attached to God. Here is my thread for today...I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus! I am going to forget those things which are behind, can't do anything about it anyway, and reach forth to those things that are ahead, for the promises of God will never be broken, they are a sure thing. Each day I will add a thread till I reach the prize, the crown of glory, everlasting life with Christ my King.

Scripture of the Day - September 28, 2012

Revelation 21:9 ...Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.

Bride, groom, wife, husband, marriage... all indicate relationship. God wants a relationship with each one of us. He doesn't want to be a far away cosmic being. He want's to be our husband, so to speak. All through the Bible God speaks of His people as His bride and He as the groom. He speaks of the marriage supper (and that ALL are called).
My son is getting married in December. He proposed last December.  The bride-to-be has been preparing for that day ever since she was proposed to. The wedding magazines were pulled out the very next day and the preparations had begun. All year long that wedding has been on their mind as they prepared for it. They are both so excited and getting more so as the day approaches.
We too have something to be excited about and we ought to be preparing for it. Jesus has gone ahead to prepare a place for us who've accepted the call to the marriage supper of the Lamb. We are blessed beyond measure and we ought to focus on that. We ought to be preparing for that. We ought not to be distracted  by the things of this world and miss out on the wedding feast! Revelation 19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Scripture of the Day - September 27, 2012

Zechariah 2:8...he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

It's true that the enemy will come after you and yes he can even affect you life but keep in mind that he that touches you touches the apple of God's eye! You are a child of God and He loves you with an everlasting love. Nothing at all in this world or beyond can separate you from His love. Paul, who knew what it was to be buffeted by the enemy, said "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39  Are you persuaded?

Scripture of the Day - September 26, 2012

Ps 149:3  Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.
Ps 150:4  Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

I follow a blog called Humans of New York. The fellow takes pictures of New Yorkers and he certainly has an amazing array of interesting people to chose from. As he was going through Central Park one day he was drawn by loud constant drumming. He crested a hill to see colorfully clad Native (South) Americans doing a send-off dance for a modern Mayan prophet who was doing a speaking tour. There they were, in public, in Central Park, all dressed in their finery, dancing with abandon to the drum beat. Now if they can do that for a prophet, a fellow human being, how much more should we dance before our God. The Bible is showered with scripture telling us to dance and sing and clap and raise our hands and shout for joy but most of us carry on in church like we are at a funeral. We ought to follow the Word of God and see what He will do

Scripture of the Day - September 25, 2012

Ephesians 4:18  Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

What a horrible thing...to be alienated from God...the source of life. If we are alienated from God it is due to our own self will. No one would ever wish to be blind physically but many don't seem to mind being blind spiritually. Willful ignorance runs rampant these days. Peoples understanding is darkened and in that darkness they don't see the need for God. In their blindness they mock God and those who safely follow Him. In their blindness they totter along the precipice of life, dangerously close to slipping with each step.
Oh precious soul, open your spiritual eyes to God's marvelous light. Allow Him to show you the way...the way to life everlasting.

Scripture of the Day - September 24, 2012

Luke 5:32  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

There are people who are righteous because they are already in a state of repentance, but there are those who are self-righteous...that is, they are righteous in their own eyes and they see no need for repentance. They will not hear the Word of God because they know better.
We are all sinners in the eyes of God and we all need to be in a state of repentance if we want to make heaven our home. Is there an area in your life that you are not repenting? Perhaps you should ask God to search your heart. His Word does a really good job at that....it's sharper than a two-edged sword, it gets right to the chase, nothing is hidden, every motive is laid bare because God's Word discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart. Read His Word and let it convict you so you are on the right side of righteous.

Scripture of the Day - September 23, 2012

Romans 2:4  ... the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

Paul is warning the church in Rome about God's judgement on sin. People tend to think they are going to get away with sin. They think that because they are not suffering right now, because they are not being struck down now that God is slack with His judgement of sin. Somewhere in their minds they think God won't really judge them, they think when they get to the Pearly Gates that God will just usher them right into heaven in spite of the sin in their lives. They are deathly wrong! There is NO sin entering heaven and that's that!
But don't you know that God is so patient with us and His goodness leads us to repentance? Yes, His goodness leads us to turn from sin. God has granted ALL OF US the gift of repentance unto life because He is not willing that ANYONE AT ALL should perish! He wants ALL of us to come to repentance, to come to heaven. Reminds me of a song we sing...Ain't God good, to give us so many blessings, undeserving that's what we are, we ought to thank Him, love and praise Him, a little more today and a whole lot more tomorrow!

Scripture of the Day - September 22, 2012

James 1:15  ...and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

My heart breaks for all those out there who are flirting with death. They are living on the edge of eternity and don't realize it. I am not talking about adrenaline junkies who do death defying stunts. I am talking about people who live a life apart from God, i.e. people who live a life of sin. They think they have everything under control, but they are playing Russian Roulette with their lives. Is it worth the risk? When death comes knocking at your door you won't have the option of refusing to answer it. Death doesn't knock softly, it just barges in and takes.
Jesus does knock softly and He is knocking at your door now. Why don't you answer Him? He will wrap you in His loving arms and take away the sting of death.

Scripture of the Day - September 21, 2012

Genesis 41:38  ...Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?

There are some that go by the letter of the Word and there are some that go beyond... to the spirit of the Word. We, as apostolic Christians, have set certain guidelines as to how we live based on the Word of God. Some guidelines are seen clearly in the letter of the Word, others are not seen so clearly... they are principles we've gleaned from the Word. Some people need chapter and verse for everything they do (or don't do).
Following the letter of the Word is acceptable but I don't want just what's acceptable, I don't want the barest minimum, I want exceptional, I want the best that God has in store for me, I want to go beyond the Holy Place to the Most Holy Place where the Glory of God is manifest in my life. I don't want any partitions between my God and me. I don't want to KNOW OF God I want to KNOW GOD. I want Him to be able to guide me with His eye. I want to be so one with Him that whatever I pray He will do because I am praying His will.
I want a lot! And because I want a lot I must give a lot...that is, give up a lot of what my carnal nature wants. Is there always chapter and verse? No, but there is always the spirit of the Word and once you are in that dimension you won't demand chapter and verse, you will just know.

Scripture of the Day - September 20, 2012

Isaiah 29:14  Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvellous work among this people, even a marvellous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

We live in a time where it looks as though the enemy is winning. He is gaining a stronger foothold every day. He is waxing bolder every day. Many people are lured into the trap political correctness. Those who do speak out are attacked as having a certain phobia and labeled hate mongers. But that's how the enemy works. He doesn't have a leg to stand on so he attacks when the truth is told. Jesus warned us that we would be hated for His names' sake. He also assured us that He has already conquered the world. We are on the winning side. We don't have to be afraid to speak out. "Go ye into all the world", Jesus said,"and preach the gospel to every creature". All we have to do is obey our Commander-in-Chief, then watch Him do the marvelous work.

Scripture of the day - September 19, 2012

1 Peter 3:3  Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4  But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

God is more interested in what's in your heart than what you cover yourself with. The pharisees covered themselves so piously but Jesus said  inside they were rotten. Some people do the same today. They dress the part but their hearts are not right. God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. He knows the secrets of the heart. He knows why you do what you do even when you don't. Cry to Him each day, just as David did, 23  Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24  And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

Scripture of the Day - September 18, 2012

Philippians 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Some people take this scripture and brush it under the rug. You see, applying God's word to your life takes effort and it takes admitting you just might be dead wrong in your perception of things. People don't like either of those. I was born this way and that's just my personality they will say in defense of their actions. Retaliation is their motto. God is not impressed with your perception and as for retaliation, He says get over yourself, vengeance is mine, I will repay!
He wants you to see things through His eyes. After all, He sees you through His precious blood that covers your sins. So back up a few verses here and let nothing be done through strife and vainglory...that means empty pride or a vain opinion...but in lowliness of mind...that means having a humble opinion of yourself, not being puffed up...let each esteem other better than themselves... that means put others first.
God is not going to force you but if you don't obey.... well don't expect the blessing to cascade from heaven.

Scripture of the Day - September 17, 2012

Mark 11:18  And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine.

Instead of being convicted of their great sin they sought to destroy Jesus. They were more interested in their traditions and  the power they had over the people. The fact that they were hypocrites didn't bother them. The fact that they were doing wrong didn't bother them. They were so filled with their own doctrines and had strayed so far from God's word that they didn't even know it any more.  So when Jesus came on the scene teaching His doctrine they sought to destroy Him.
It's not much different today. People would rather hang onto their man-made doctrines and their traditions and brush aside the truth of God's word. Declarations of 'that's not for today' ring loudly when the truth is pointed out. They will scorn, they will mock and they will turn their backs. Let me tell you, one day Jesus will turn His back and say I never knew you. Oh I pray that peoples eyes would be open to the truth before it's too late for them.

Scripture of the Day - September 16, 2012

Mark 11:13  And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14  And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.

God expects us to produce the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. He knows the heart and knows a shallow person when He sees one. The day before this fig scene Jesus made His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The people had lined the street with their clothing and palm leaves as they shouted Hosanna, Hosanna, blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord!!! Oh how they cheered. But He knew their cheers were hollow. He knew their cheers would turn to jeers and they would soon cry out crucify Him, crucify Him.
You may talk the talk but do you walk the walk? Its easy to profess to being a Christian, (at least in some places) but do you actually live it? Your empty profession means nothing to God and you will be cut down if you don't produce fruit. This is serious business. God doesn't play games. His disciples heard it, do you hear it?

Scripture of the Day - September 15, 2012

Psalm 42:7  Deep calleth unto deep...

Most of us have a very shallow walk with God. We wade around ankle deep not touching nor understanding the deeper things of God. Because of this we often are frustrated and discouraged. We don't see the mighty hand of God move because we don't hear Him calling us into a deeper walk with Him. You see, God's thoughts are very deep and if we want to see His great works we have to answer the call of the deep.  Psalm 92:5  O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.

Scripture of the Day - September 14, 2012

Psalm 139:14 ...and that my soul knoweth right well.

Men of old, who had gone through great trials and tribulations, KNEW their God and KNEW what He could and would do. Paul said to Timothy 2 Timothy 1:12  For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. Job said Job 19:25  For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. 26  And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.
Let's not be filled with ifs and buts and doubts, rather let's be filled with the KNOWLEDGE of God and our love for Him. Let's praise Him as David did. Here's the beginning of Psalm 139:14...I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works;

Scripture of the Day - September 13, 2012

John 1:4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

It's so sad...people bound in sin don't realize what they are missing out on. They just don't understand therefore they are just not interested. Jesus Christ is the way to heaven, He is the truth...there are not many truths...and He is the life. The most dangerous darkness is religious darkness. Some think they are on the right path and yes they are close... but it doesn't matter how close you are...if you are not on the right path you are never going to get there. The Pharisees thought they had it all down pat with all their rules and rituals but Jesus told them they were rotting inside. God is not impressed with denominations and their rituals and traditions, He is interested in a relationship. Do you comprehend or are you in darkness?

Scripture of the Day - September 12, 2012

Hosea 14:8 Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

God will never leave you hanging. If you turn from a life of sin He will give you a new life. He hears you, He is watching you and He will feed you His fruit...His Spirit. The wise will understand this and the prudent will do it. The ways of the Lord are right and those that follow His ways shall walk safely but those who rebel against God will fall. It's time to be wise. It's time to be prudent.

Scripture of the Day - September 11, 2012

Psalm 9:8  And he shall judge the world in righteousness...

Millions of people today don't understand that judgement is coming. They live their lives like nothing is going to happen, like it doesn't matter what they do but there is coming a day when God will judge all nations. Heb 9:27  And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: What are you going to say when you stand before your maker? Are you going to stand before Him as His child with great pleasure as He points you to heaven, or are you going to stand before Him with dread as he points you to hell? That might sound strong but sin is sin and sin will NOT enter heaven no matter how much we sugar coat it. Turn to Him before it's too late. Seek Him while He may be found.

Scripture of the Day - September 10, 2012

Colossians 1:2  To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul is greeting the faithful churchgoers at Colosse. Faithfulness is not a common trait these days. Very few will stick with you through thick and thin. As soon as the hard times hit they are gone, as soon as they are corrected they are gone, as soon as they see an easy way out they are gone, as soon as they see something they perceive as better they are gone, better children's programs, better social events, bigger church group...bigger, better, more...faithfulness means nothing... you can't depend on friendships, you can't even depend on family.
But God, who is faithful, expects us to be faithful, even unto death! Revelation 2:10  ...be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

Scripture of the Day - September 9, 2012

Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.

We need light to see the way clearly. Without it we stumble in the dark and end up getting hurt. Millions of people are stumbling in this spiritually dark world. They are blinded by the works of darkness. We are the light of the world and we need to shine bright! We cannot dim our light with murmurings and disputings. People need to see Jesus in us and they need to see His goodness manifested through our words and actions.

Scripture of the Day - September 8, 2012

Mark 2:4  And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.

Faith will go to any extent to prove itself. Lack of faith won't budge. It was no easy feat to tear up this roof...and oh the risk of offending...are you nuts tearing up this man's roof?...but it had to be done, they had to get their friend to Jesus and they were going to do whatever they had to in order that he might get a touch from the Healer's hand.
Human ingenuity seems to know no bounds, where there's a will there's a way, invention is the daughter of necessity. Ought we to have the same attitude reaching the Master? It is necessary for us to bring people to Jesus and we have to find a way. Faith will guide us beyond our comfort zone.  Faith will guide us to do the impossible. Are you ready to do the impossible?

Scripture of the Day - September 7, 2012

Hebrews 10:38  Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Faith is as essential for the spiritual as oxygen is for the physical. Without faith it is impossible to please God because without faith you won't obey God. You need faith to allow God to guide you and God, in His infinite mercy, has given each one of us a measure of faith. We have no excuse. We have to use our faith. Some may have more faith than others but you must use what you have. Moses only had a rod when God called him to lead the people out of Egypt, but he went and we know the result! The widow of Zarephath had faith enough to give her last bit of food to Elijah and she never had to worry about food running out again!
Don't draw back your faith from God. Let Him have pleasure in you and bless you beyond your wildest expectations.

Scripture of the Day - September 6, 2012

Hebrews 13:17  Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

Ooooh, here's a command that we don't like...in particular, the word submit. We are are society that does not like the idea of submitting. It's our way or no way. But God is not impressed with that attitude at all. He expects us to submit one to another and to watch out for each other. Those who continuously strive with their leaders, and constantly cause trouble are walking a dangerous path. They may have their way for now but they will not profit, God will take vengeance on that attitude.  Romans 12:19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Scripture of the Day - September 5, 2012

Leviticus 19:35  Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.
36  Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt.
37  Therefore shall ye observe ALL my statutes, and ALL my judgments, and DO them: I am the LORD.

We all have different ideas of what is important in being a Christian. We call them convictions and we stand firm on our convictions. But sometimes our convictions aren't enough. God expects us to observe ALL of His commands...not just know them but DO them. We had better be careful of the commands that we brush aside. They may be far more important than our own convictions.

Scripture of the Day - September 4, 2012

Proverbs 3:7  Be not wise in thine own eyes...

Spurgeon said that a sense of our own folly is a great step toward being wise when it leads us to rely on the wisdom of the Lord and how right he was. The wisest man in the world instructed us to   Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In ALL thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Too often we think we know better and we think we know how things should be and in that blindness we miss where God is trying to lead us and we miss out on the blessings He has for us. But if we allow God to guide us with His advice (or more aptly put...His purpose); He will receive us with honor. Psalm 73:24

Scripture of the Day - September 3, 2012

Deuteronomy 31:6  Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

God will not fail you. He is with you to the end. Put full confidence in Him. Don't dishonor Him with doubts and fear when troubles assail you, rather turn to Him and and show the strong man of this world how strong you are in your weakness because you've yolked yourself to Jesus and are resting in the everlasting arms of your Savior.

Scripture of the Day - September 2, 2012

2 Corinthians 12:9  And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.

In our weakness, if we turn to God and trust in Him we will see His strength. Not, mind you, because that's the only time He is strong, rather, it's then that we actually see His strength. Folks we have to understand how strong our God is. Paul said the weakness of God is stronger than men...meaning...if you could say God has a weakness even that is stronger than men. We are often too busy doing for ourselves to turn to Him. We often think we need to take care of things ourselves and do it our way. And when things don't go the way we planned, when things don't work out as we expected, we become disillusioned and disappointed with God. Take His yoke upon you and learn of Him, and you will have a new lease on life.

Scripture of the Day - September 1, 2012

Psalm 27:14  Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Oh the hardest thing to do is wait! How we hate to wait! We want our answer now! We want our blessing yesterday! We are a busy people and we expect our God to be busy for us! But God says... slow down my child, I've got all things under control, you don't need to worry and fret, be of good courage and trust in Me, I will strengthen you with my Spirit. You see it's not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit that you will have victory.
