Scripture of the Day - August 31, 2012

Luke 2:7  And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Christmas is just around the corner and Christians all over the world will be celebrating the birth of that sweet little baby. They will give each other gifts, they will sing songs to honor him and his birth, they will feast and visit with family and friends, some will even go to church... then the New Year will arrive and the baby Jesus will be packed away with the other decorations and life will continue as usual.
Folks, we have to tell them that  unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. That little baby is the ancient of days showing Himself to us in the flesh...Jesus the Anointed, the Lord. Yes indeed, we have to tell them that  unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Scripture of the Day - August 30, 2012

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

I know all the holy rollers are saying "amen sister" but there are those on this email list who are saying "well, that's her interpretation". But I ask you, how do you misinterpret IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST? It's right there in black and white! Open your Bible and read it for yourself. Oh I know, you are going to refer to Matthew 28:19 to reason baptizing in the titles 'father son and Holy Ghost', but please understand that if anyone knew what Jesus meant when He gave His great commission it would be Peter! Peter understood that when Jesus said name, He meant name not titles and that is why Peter told the people to be baptized in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.

Scripture of the Day - August 29, 2012

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

So what's the big deal if we use the titles or the name? Isn't baptism just a public demonstration of our acceptance of Jesus? No, it's far more...baptism is FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS...it's written in plain black and white. Peter understood the power of the name of Jesus...Acts 3:6, 4:10, in fact he declared that there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved 4:12... and boy oh boy did that ever aggravate the enemy. They beat the disciples and told them not to preach in that name again! They couldn't deny the miracles, they didn't mind the preaching but they hated the name of Jesus!
Today people don't have to be beaten, they don't have to be threatened... millions willingly drop the name of Jesus and resort to using His titles.  You can have the greatest oratory skills and the most amazing people skills so that you draw huge crowds but if you don't have the name of Jesus you don't have the saving power, and that's the bottom line.

Scripture of the Day - August 28, 2012

39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Isn't it incredible that when Jesus walked the earth most of the religious people denied who He was. Even though they were well trained in the scripture they missed the mark. Jesus had to tell them to search the scriptures to find all the prophecies about Him. John 5:39  Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Millions of people today are missing the mark. The Bible tells us to repent and be baptized but false teachers say we don't have to. Just sprinkle your babies and be a good person they say. Do you really think God is going to let man override how He says you must be saved? It's time to take the blinders off and obey the Word of God.

Scripture of the Day - August 27, 2012

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Peter was explaining to the people what to do to save themselves. Save themselves from what, you may ask? From eternal damnation. God does not play games. If you reject Him, He will reject you entry into heaven and you will live eternity without Him. That is not something to take lightly.
Next question...who gave Peter authority to tell people how to be saved?  Jesus Christ himself did...He said to Peter  "And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:19  The one who has the keys unlocks the door.
So the bottom line is... if we want to be saved we have to follow after Peter's instructions.

Scripture of the Day - August 26, 2012

John 20:19  ...where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

The disciples had given up everything to follow Jesus. They staked their very lives on Him but now he was gone. Jesus was crucified and they were hiding for fear of suffering the same fate. His teachings faded from their memories and fear took hold. All they remembered now was how the religious elite hated Jesus, how they ridiculed him and opposed Him and eventually killed Him. Their hope was crushed...it was over. BUT WAIT! Just when they thought all was lost JESUS stood in the midst of them offering peace! They could hardly believe it was really Him. So he showed them His hands  20  And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. Oh what joy, oh what a relief, all is not lost!  21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. So Jesus reassured them that they need not fear, they could go and teach all nations, baptizing them in His name, and He will be with them.

Scripture of the Day - August 25, 2012

Ephesians 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

That word quicken is old English for "made alive". We were dead in sin but Jesus made us alive in Him. Paul tells us in Colossians that Christ is our life. Jesus himself said, "I am the bread of life" John 6:35 He is the vine that gives life and we are the branches that draw life from the vine. He gave His life that we might live and He rose from the grave conquering hell death and the grave. We have nothing to fear with Christ in us. All power is given unto Him.

Scripture of the Day - August 24, 2012

1 Peter 5:6  Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Do we grasp the greatness of God? Do we grasp how much he loves us and cares for us? If we would only humble ourselves before Him and follow after ALL His ways, trusting Him enough to cast all our cares upon Him. Oh yes, we go to Him in prayer... but we pray doubting. How do I know? Because we continue to fret over our situations. I read somewhere "You don't get ulcers from what you eat. You get them from what's eating you." A believing Christian should not be stressed, especially to the point of sickness. As the old hymn goes...Oh what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear.
Cast your cares upon Him and reel in His peace...that peace which passes all understanding.

Scripture of the Day - August 23, 2012

Proverbs 11:25  The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.

In our common vernacular this is means the person who blesses others will be blessed and the one who satisfies others will be satisfied himself. God's laws are contrary to our natural thinking. We tend to put ourselves first and take care of our own needs before we think of others...it's our survival instinct...it's the law of nature. But there is a higher law, a law that supersedes the law of nature... the law of God... and if we apply His law to our lives we will reap amazing benefits that we could never acquire on our own.

Scripture of the Day - August 22, 2012

Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

Have you ever tried to go fishing and have the mosquitoes drive you to distraction? You spend more time shooing the flies away than you do casting your bait in the river! You walk away with more fly bites than fish and you scratch for days at those annoying itches. But if you cover yourself with the proper protection you can fish with pleasure with nary a bite from those pesky mosquitoes.
Now apply that scene to the spiritual. If you try to deal with the things of life using your own understanding, your own logic, it's like shooing the flies away while you're fishing. You'll be distracted from what's really important and you will end up bitten and suffering. But if you protect yourself with the law of God, if you are ruled by the law of God, the things others do will not affect you the same.

Scripture of the Day - August 21, 2012

Philippians 2:3  Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

C.S. Lewis said humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. Our society today is all about self...me me me...what about me, what's in it for me, I have my rights and the most damaging...poor me. Did you know selfish people are the most miserable? If we would get our minds off ourselves and focus on Jesus first, then on others, we would not be so dissatisfied.

Scripture of the Day - August 20, 2012

Hebrews 10:24  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

It's amazing how we in the west will use any excuse to not go to church...too busy, too tired, don't have transportation, only chance to go have fun is Sunday, only chance to clean my house is Sunday, someone in the church hurt my feelings...on and on the excuses go. Meanwhile there are people who walk for miles in scorching heat to get to church, there are people being killed for their faith, they are being gunned down in their churches, I've seen the pictures...but Jesus said you will be hated for my name's sake, and we know what they did to Him.
Don't you know you are starving your spirit when you don't go to church? Don't forsake it!  Jesus died for the church, He is the head of the church, the church is His body and hell isn't going to stop the church from moving forward. Do you want to move forward or do you want to let the enemy walk all over you? Get up! Gird up your loins! Get yourself into church and be strengthened so you can fight the good fight of faith.

Scripture of the Day - August 18, 2012

Jeremiah 51:51 ...shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the LORD’S house.
52  Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will do judgment upon her graven images...

Oh how the same can be said for today! There are so many false teachers teaching false doctrines that are leading millions of souls astray. Dear reader, search the scriptures, learn what Jesus has to say about the matter and follow after Him. Don't listen to the smooth silky voices saying it's not for today. Jesus doesn't change and His word is as relevant today as it was when it was first written. Let the Word of God lead you rather than the traditions and vain imaginations of man.

Scripture of the Day - August 17, 2012

Philippians 4:8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Its so easy to slip into negative thinking because it's a downward spiral and going down is easy...gravity helps us with that! When things are not going as we would like we have to press forward and purposely think positive. That's not to say we don't deal with the negatives of life, it just means we don't let the negatives rule our thinking and therefore rule our lives.

Scripture of the Day - August 15, 2012

Proverbs 4:7  Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

To understand is to grasp the meaning of, to be thoroughly familiar with, to accept as a fact or truth, to have thorough or technical acquaintance with or expertness in the practice of a certain thing.
If we are to apply God's Word to our lives we must have an understanding of His Word. How can we apply it if we don't understand it? It's not enough to just read the Bible. It's not enough to just sit on a church pew twice a week. Knowledge alone won't do you much good. You have to know what to do with that knowledge and that's where wisdom and understanding come in. Jesus said "whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man."  James asks, "Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? Let him demonstrate it by his good way of life, by actions done in the humility that grows out of wisdom." Book knowledge won't save you and keep you. You need wisdom and understanding so you can apply that knowledge properly.

Scripture of the Day - August 14, 2012

Proverbs 23:12  Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

Sometimes we resist the knowledge God is trying to impart to us because it makes us examine ourselves, and we don’t like to do that. We are quite comfortable with self and don’t want to change, (even it will be for the better)so we turn out heads and cover our ears and miss out on the tremendous blessings God has for us.
Folks we have to open our ears to knowledge and apply that knowledge to our lives.Lack of knowledge brings despair and eventually destruction. Get knowledge and get wisdom. Wisdom is the principle thing because without wisdom you won't be able to apply knowledge to your life.

Scripture of the Day - August 13, 2012

Hosea 4:6  My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee...

God offers us knowledge but it requires our cooperation...we have to take it, we have to accept it, and the offer is not open ended. God does have a time and a season for everything. If we miss the open door there may not be another. If you feel the Spirit draw you it would be wise to answer NOW. God knows the perfect time, and if we want it we have to cooperate or miss out.

Scripture of the Day - August 11, 2012

2 Kings 7:16  And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD. 17  And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spake when the king came down to him.

Meanwhile there were some lepers who were deciding whether to go into the city or not. It seemed to be no matter what they did they were going to die so they decided to go to the Syrians and take a chance on some kindness. What a surprise they got when they arrived at the camp! Not a soul in sight! God had frightened the Syrians off! They left everything and fled for their lives and the lepers had a field day! Food, gold, silver, clothes, you name it they had left it all! Now the lepers started feeling a little guilty over all the starving people in Samaria so they went and told the King what they had discovered. The King put his trusted aid, the one who doubted God, in charge and he was trampled by the mob of people who stormed out of the city gate to fill their empty bellies.
Folks it's a very foolish thing to doubt God. It's a very foolish thing to think that what God has declared done will not happen just because you don't understand how it could be so. You don't know what God will do and you can't come close to comprehending His ways...but you can trust Him and know that He has you in the palm of His hand.

Scripture of the Day - August 10, 2012

2 Kings 7:1  Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the LORD; Thus saith the LORD, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
2  Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.

How many of us miss out on the abundant blessings of God because we doubt His word? There was a great famine in the city of Samaria because it was besieged by the Syrians. The people were beyond desperate, to the point of eating their own children. They saw no way out, which is why the king's aid said, “Why, this couldn’t happen even if Adonai made windows in heaven!” (Jewish translation) “I don’t believe it! Even if the Lord sent a rainstorm, it couldn’t produce that much grain by tomorrow.” (The Message translation)
With man, yes it would be impossible indeed, but with God ALL things are possible!! We have such limited vision and unfortunately it's through this limited vision that we see God. God will be to us what we expect Him to be. If we don't expect much then He won't be much...to the doubter that is!

Scripture of the Day - August 9, 2012

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Before there is revival in the land there is a surge of opposition from the adversary. God allows the opposition to strengthen you and to draw you closer to Him and God will continue to allow the opposition TILL you draw closer to Him. The gates of hell tremble at the church and the gatekeeper will fight and resist the establishing of a church in his principality. Not any church mind you, (some 'churches' are nothing more than clubs) but a church who's foundation and chief cornerstone is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Your adversary is trying to devour you, but you are safe in the arms of God Almighty. And if God is with you then who can stand against you? No one! So draw close to Him, lean on Him and not on your own understanding. Let His Word be a light to your path and guide your steps.

God expects us to be busy about His business. How can we rest on the laps of those who toil so hard? Those great men of God who spent countless hours in prayer, and service to God, preaching His Word, convicting and converting the masses...(Spurgeon, Wesley, Edwards, Finny...to name a few). And those who sacrificed their lives to bring us out of the dark ages and out from under the thumb of the great apostate church. Oh the freedom we have because of these men. Wait! Let's go back a few more years! The freedom we have because of Jesus. Jesus went about preaching the gospel and healing all those who came to Him and then he suffered Calvary to pay our penalty. He never laid is head on a feather pillow, He didn't feast on sumptuous meals, He wasn't carried about on a chariot. And look how they rewarded Him! Do we dare expect to be treated better than our master? What foolish pride. The question was asked Numbers 32:6 Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? Shall Jesus suffer the cross and shall we sit here? God forbid we be so slothful. Let us not be cast into a deep sleep, but let us be alert and wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16

Scripture of the Day - August 7, 2012

Ezekiel 3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

A pastor must give an account for his flock. He is responsible for teaching the right way and correcting those who go astray, but he is not responsible for those who refuse to listen. All we can do is teach God's way and live it. We cannot force others to comply and we are not responsible for their response to God. God will deal with those who reject Him and His ways. That being said, the man of God MUST warn the people and MUST spread the gospel, if he doesn't then he is responsible for their souls... 18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. What a heavy responsibility. Folks we need to pray for our pastors and ministers. Their souls are on the line too, maybe more so.

Scripture of the Day - August 6, 2012

Daniel 11:32  ...the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

They say knowledge is power and they are so true! The people that KNOW their GOD shall be strong and have power to do amazing things. You have to know where your resources are before you can use them. You have to know what is available. God explains "my people are destroyed for a LACK OF KNOWLEDGE". Imagine being destroyed simple because you didn't have knowledge! Folks, there is no excuse. It's all laid out for us in black and white... it's called the Bible, God's book to humanity. Are you interested in knowledge or are you willing to be destroyed? It's your choice, choose wisely.

Scripture of the Day - August 5, 2012

John 15:16 I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain.

We each have a purpose in life. Jesus has chosen us for a reason. He has ordained each one of us to bring forth fruit that will last. Now you may wonder what does "bring forth fruit" mean? Basically it means spreading the gospel and doing good. But the clincher is that we must do it so it will last. So the next question is how can we ensure that? The simple answer is to do it in love. Jesus commanded it...17  These things I command you, that ye love one another. You see, the world hates but a true Christian will love. The world will hate you for what you represent but you must love anyway. You must love your enemies and pray for them who persecute you.  You must not retaliate with the hatred of this world but cover it in love. That is the only fruit that will last...all things of this world will burn up one day but love will last forever.

Scripture of the Day - August 4, 2012

John 15:16  Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you...19 ...I have chosen you out of the world...

Jesus has chosen us, he has bought us with his blood and has redeemed us from the enemy of our souls. He has robed us with his love and compassion and has encompassed us with his protection. By his stripes we are healed, by his blood we are cleansed and made whole. He knows how many hairs are on our heads and cares about every aspect of our lives. If we seek him first he will supply all our needs because he wants to. He has chosen us... he has chosen to love us and care for us, but he has chosen us OUT of the world.

Scripture of the Day - August 3, 2012

Psalm 73:23  Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
24  Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.

When all seems to be going against you, know that God is in control and is working all things out for your own good. He has a hold of you and He will not let go. He will guide you but you must follow, even if it goes against your nature and you can't see the way so clearly. His ways are far above your ways so you must trust Him knowing that He is working all things out for your good even if you must be chastised for a time. Don't despise the chastisement of the Lord, rather learn from it. Let life make you better not bitter.

Scripture of the Day - August 2, 2012

Psalm 73:2  But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
3  For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

Sometimes we spend so much energy looking out at others and being envious that we don't have any left to look up to our redeemer and to be grateful. We become weak; our walk with God becomes shaky  and our feet start to slip. We start to question God...why me?...why did this and that happen?...why didn't things work out as I expected?...and on and on the questioning goes. We become angry at God, (oh we sugar coat it as being angry at our situation or at ourselves etc. but that's what it boils down to...angry at God). We feel that we are cursed and that everything is against us when in reality God is working out everything for our good.
Oh wounded one, swallow your pride and cry out as Asaph did...Psalm 73:22  So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

Scripture of the Day - August 1, 2012

Acts 10:38  How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Jesus personally went about doing good. He would often stop what He was doing and go out of His way to tend to someones need. Anyone who is filled with the Holy Spirit is anointed with the same power and is expected to do the same good. Would you go out of your way to do good? What do you use that Holy Ghost power for?

Scripture of the Day - July 31, 2012

Acts 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me...

Jesus is giving us power, not so we use it for selfish gain but so we can be a witness unto Him. Paul explains that we are ambassadors for Christ, 2 Cor. 5:20.  Your life is a Bible for those who don't know God's word. Are you an ambassador or an embarrassment for Christ?  My husband was at a certain place with some of our church members. He was so embarrassed because of the vulgar talk coming from one of them that he left. Now imagine how Jesus feels.
Folks this is serious business. Professing to be a Christian yet talkins like a street walker ought not to be so.  How you conduct yourself is important. Your speech is important. James warns that the tongue wields great power. James 3:2-7  Paul instructs us to watch the way we talk, to let nothing foul come out of our mouths, to have our words benefit those who hear. Ephesians 4:29  Peter instructs us to have a meek and quiet spirit, (not loud and obnoxious) 1 Peter 3:4
Ask yourself, am I an ambassador or an embarrassment?
