Scripture of the Day - August 29, 2012

Acts 2:38  Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39  For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

So what's the big deal if we use the titles or the name? Isn't baptism just a public demonstration of our acceptance of Jesus? No, it's far more...baptism is FOR THE REMISSION OF's written in plain black and white. Peter understood the power of the name of Jesus...Acts 3:6, 4:10, in fact he declared that there is no other name given among men whereby we must be saved 4:12... and boy oh boy did that ever aggravate the enemy. They beat the disciples and told them not to preach in that name again! They couldn't deny the miracles, they didn't mind the preaching but they hated the name of Jesus!
Today people don't have to be beaten, they don't have to be threatened... millions willingly drop the name of Jesus and resort to using His titles.  You can have the greatest oratory skills and the most amazing people skills so that you draw huge crowds but if you don't have the name of Jesus you don't have the saving power, and that's the bottom line.
