Scripture of the Day - August 8, 2012

Proverbs 19:15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.

God expects us to be busy about His business. How can we rest on the laps of those who toil so hard? Those great men of God who spent countless hours in prayer, and service to God, preaching His Word, convicting and converting the masses...(Spurgeon, Wesley, Edwards, name a few). And those who sacrificed their lives to bring us out of the dark ages and out from under the thumb of the great apostate church. Oh the freedom we have because of these men. Wait! Let's go back a few more years! The freedom we have because of Jesus. Jesus went about preaching the gospel and healing all those who came to Him and then he suffered Calvary to pay our penalty. He never laid is head on a feather pillow, He didn't feast on sumptuous meals, He wasn't carried about on a chariot. And look how they rewarded Him! Do we dare expect to be treated better than our master? What foolish pride. The question was asked Numbers 32:6 Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here? Shall Jesus suffer the cross and shall we sit here? God forbid we be so slothful. Let us not be cast into a deep sleep, but let us be alert and wise, redeeming the time because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:16
