Scripture of the Day - October 11, 2012

1 Peter 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Are you gilt or gold?
Gilt resembles gold but doesn't have the depth of gold. Gilt can't take the heat because it's only surface deep. It's only a covering so it will shy away from the fire lest what's inside be shown. It will stay in the shallow where it's safe.
Gold, on the other hand, has no fear of the fire. It knows that once tried all the dross will be burned out and it will be pure. We have an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled. We cannot lay claim to that inheritance if we are corrupted and defiled so our faith must be tried, the dross in us must be brought to the surface and burned away so we can take our reserved place in heaven.  Jesus said Mt 5:8  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. So rejoice, even though for a season you are grieved with great trials. You will receive the end of your faith, which is the salvation of your soul, a thing far more precious than gold.
